We love what we do

Remember the Basics…

Remember the Basics…

Working in recruitment gives you the opportunity to meet many different candidates and with that, different approaches to how job searches are managed. One thing that doesn’t change though are some of the basics about how you approach your job search with a recruitment agency. It may seem like we are stating the obvious but we have put together some reminders….

Interviews

    • Be on time – 5 minutes early is perfect – 10 minutes or more is probably a bit too early (and please don’t bring your friends or relatives with you)

    • If you are going to be late let your interviewer know.

    • Make sure you are neatly presented for interview – presentation is important

    • First impressions count!  Take the sunglasses off your head, make sure phones are off and bottles of water are packed away

    • Understand the role you are interviewing for – have a copy of the PD and read it

    • Research the organisation’s website to get a good understanding of their business

Resume

    • Before you send your resume anywhere get someone else to check it – spelling and formatting.

    • Make sure the email, phone numbers and dates of employment on your resume are correct

    • If there are gaps in your employment – explain why.

    • Include your name and page number in the footer of every page

Keeping Track

    • Keep track of where you are applying – the role and organisation so you are not doubling up on your applications

    • Return calls promptly.  Generally, we will call because we need to coordinate an interview

    • After an interview, call your agency back with your feedback so it can be passed onto clients

    • Think about your referees.  Referees where possible should ideally direct managers or supervisors who can comment on work performance.

    • Consultants do not expect you to only be interviewing for one position. So, be open and honest about where you are with your job search.  If you have a second interview or are about to be made an offer let your recruiter know.

    • Please try and have voicemail, its hard to leave detailed messages on 10 second text !

The basics can make the difference to getting the job, it’s always worth paying attention to them. If you would like to be considered for any of our advertised positions or to discuss your next career move please call or email The Turner Group.
